Olathe Northwest has been broadcasting games for many years. Connor Gerdes is a student and commentator for ONW and has been calling games for over a year.

Setting up for a broadcast is a lot of work and takes time to prepare for the broadcast.

“ We have to get the tri-caster, set up and get the monitors,  cameras and moniters all put together.”

The tri-caster sets up the broadcast and also shows you what’s going on from the cameras. It can switch the camera angles and also show the broadcasters on air. We set up many cameras for the broadcast so we can get many angles. We’ll have shots of a wide screen shot and also have zoomed in shots to help you see better.

ONW broadcast has many sports that they broadcast. Gerdes says

“ We broadcasted Football, Women’s and Men basketball games, we then live streamed them to the CUBE."

The Cube is a website where high schools across the country can post their broadcast on to. The ONW broadcast are on this website so all broadcast you can see are online.

To get to broadcast many e-comm  students will have to enroll in the S.I.D department to broadcast and learn about the broadcast.

Gerdes on what got him in to broadcasting said "my e-comm class and S.I.D class because it was a great opportunity to broadcast games so I took it.”

At ONW a broadcast usually takes more than 10 people to work it.

“Working a broadcast is the most fun thing in my life" said Gerdes. The S.I.D class will be the only class where you can work and even commentate a broadcast.
