Growing from experience ONW... Now

"Welcome to a brand new edition of ONW Now! I’m your host Luis Ruiz for today’s show, so let’s get started,"

At Olathe Northwest the students hear those sentences every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. People enjoy the show and have high praise for the ones who anchor, because it takes a lot to stand in front of a camera and report on-going events at school.

ONW Now is a student led show where they produce packages about on-going school events and they try to interact with the other students.

“People that watch the show may think it is not hard to stand in front of the camera and speak words. I've never been on the show but I believe it is difficult, because when people are hosting you have to show emotion and annunciate your words, and not move around a lot.” Solomon Shields said.

Olathe Northwest is not the only school that has a daily show, but from peoples opinions they say Olathe Northwest has the better show because it is more interactive and entertaining.

“I appreciate ONW Now because we are like a mini-news station and Sportscenter. Yeah, it is not the best hosting, but we are teenagers and it is cool to see people do that,” Logan Contino said.

ONW Now does not just do a certain kind of package, but a variety of them. For example, they have done packages over Mrs. Rippe, A&E, the Colin Couch story, etc. They make packages that matter and touch people emotionally.  

“The ideas for packages are really cool and funny: Word from the halls, prop box, and the one about A&E, since I am in A&E it is cool to see that people recognize us,” Jack Perkins said.

From last year to this year, ONW Now has transformed a lot. One being completely new host(s) and setup. Another, being a whole new approach on how the show is set to be done. A lot more interaction with students and teachers.

"You can definitely see a huge improvement from the beginning of the year to now. ONW Now is a lot better than it was from last year. Last year was just to bland and nothing interesting. But this year, my class we watch all of them and we see the difference. ONW is now worth watching," Perkins said.

Although, ONW Now and Gameday are no CBS news or Sportscenter, they are good shows and entertaining, because young kids of today are aspiring to become better at hosting and producing. It is amazing to see teenagers produce a show and packages by themselves.
